Hudson — Classic Car Paint & Body Repair in Houston TX
Hudson automobiles are among the most distinctive American classics ever built — their low, streamlined body style, innovative step-down chassis, and connection to NASCAR's early years make them collectible vehicles that deserve careful, respectful treatment when restoration or repair work is needed. When this Hudson came into our Houston shop, our approach was shaped by that respect: do the metalwork correctly, use appropriate materials, and deliver a result that honors the vehicle's original character.
This paint and body repair project is documented in 23 photos — the most extensive documentation of any project in this batch. The photos cover the full arc of the job: the intake condition, metal straightening and fabrication, rust treatment, priming, color application, and the finished result. If you own a Hudson or any other American classic and are evaluating shops for paint and body work in the Houston area, this gallery shows how we approach these projects.
Classic cars present challenges that modern vehicles don't. Replacement panels may not exist, forcing fabrication from sheet steel. Rust damage is typically more extensive and deeper than on a newer vehicle. Factory color codes are often incomplete or undocumented. Our experience with classic car restoration makes us comfortable with all of these challenges — and our results speak for themselves.
Fresh Paint serves classic and vintage car owners throughout Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland, and the surrounding communities. Free estimates on all work. 1-year labor warranty on all repairs and restorations performed at our shop.

How We Approach This Work
The technical details behind what you see in the gallery below.
Classic Hudsons — Metalwork Comes First
Hudson bodies were built with quality American steel, but decades of age mean that rust is almost always part of the picture on a restoration or repair project. On this Hudson, we began with a systematic assessment of every panel — probing for hidden rust, checking for previous repairs, and mapping all the metalwork that needed to be done before paint could be discussed. Metalwork quality is the foundation of everything else.
Fabrication — When Panels Don't Exist
Replacement body panels for classic Hudsons are largely unavailable. Sections that needed replacement on this project were hand-fabricated from sheet steel — cut, shaped, and welded to match the original contour. This is skilled metalwork that requires both fabrication knowledge and an understanding of the vehicle's original design intent. We take pride in being able to offer this capability.
Rust Treatment — No Shortcuts
On a vehicle of this age, any rust that is encapsulated rather than removed will return. Our approach on classic car projects is to cut all rust back to clean metal, treat surrounding areas with rust-inhibiting sealer, and prime with an epoxy sealer that creates a genuine moisture barrier. This is more work and cost than covering rust with filler, but it's the only approach that lasts.
Paint System Selection for Classic Cars
For vintage vehicles, the paint system choice matters. Classic cars can be finished in either a modern 2K urethane basecoat/clearcoat system (more durable, long warranty) or in a single-stage urethane (period-appropriate appearance). We discuss the options with each owner based on the vehicle's intended use — show car, driver, or collector piece — and apply whichever system best serves the car and the owner's goals.
Color Matching on Vintage Vehicles
Hudson factory color codes from the 1940s and 1950s can be difficult to source accurately. For this project, we used a combination of historical color references and spectrophotometer analysis of surviving original paint to mix a formula that accurately represents the original color. Getting this right is the difference between a restoration that looks authentic and one that looks approximate.
