Red Dodge Ram 1500 Full Paint Restoration in Houston, TX
When this Red Dodge Ram 1500 came into our Houston shop, the paint was showing the cumulative damage of years in the Texas sun — heavy oxidation, deep UV hazing, clear coat failure on the hood and roof, surface rust creeping in at panel seams, and scattered chips and scratches that had been left untreated long enough to start affecting the underlying metal. This wasn't a polish job. This was a full paint restoration from the ground up.
The owner had kept this Ram 1500 maintained mechanically, but the exterior told a different story. He wanted it looking the way it did when it rolled off the lot — that deep, rich factory red with the kind of gloss that catches the Houston sun the right way. Achieving that meant we had to strip what was there, properly prepare the substrate, and lay down a factory-accurate finish that would hold up to the Texas climate for years to come.
This page documents the entire project — 65 photos spanning every stage from initial assessment through final delivery. Whether you're bringing us a Ram 1500, a Silverado, a classic Mustang, or a foreign luxury vehicle, this is the process we follow: thorough, documented, and done right the first time.

How We Restored This Dodge Ram 1500 — Step by Step
Every full paint restoration at Fresh Paint follows a structured, multi-stage process. This is exactly what happened with this Ram 1500 — from intake to delivery.
Stage 1: Paint Assessment & Damage Documentation
The Ram 1500 went through a full intake inspection — paint depth gauging on every panel, UV damage mapping, rust identification at all seams and edges, and photography of every area with existing damage. This documentation isn't just for our records; it ensures every problem area gets addressed in the prep stages rather than discovered after paint is applied.
Stage 2: Stripping, Rust Treatment & Metal Prep
The existing paint was stripped or feathered back at all affected areas. Any surface rust at panel seams and edges was treated with a rust encapsulant and, where necessary, sections were ground back to clean bare metal before new material was introduced. Proper metal prep is the step that determines whether a paint job lasts five years or thirty.
Stage 3: High-Build Primer & Block Sanding
Multiple coats of high-build urethane primer were applied across all prepared surfaces. After full cure, we hand block-sanded the primer flat — first with a coarser grit to level the surface, then progressing to finer grits until every panel was perfectly flat and free of texture. This is a critical, time-consuming stage that most budget shops skip. The result is a paint surface with depth and uniformity that lasts.
Stage 4: Color Matching & Basecoat Application
The factory red color code was scanned using a spectrophotometer to establish the exact hue, value, and saturation of the original paint — then adjusted for any aging that had occurred before we stripped it. The custom-matched basecoat was applied in our climate-controlled spray booth in controlled, overlapping passes, building the color depth and metallic flake orientation that defines this truck's signature red.
Stage 5: Urethane Clear Coat & Curing
Premium 2K urethane clear coat was applied in multiple passes to build sufficient film thickness for UV protection and long-term durability. The truck cured in our heated booth — not air-dried on a parking lot — to ensure proper cross-linking of the clear coat and maximum hardness before any post-cure polishing. Houston's UV index is brutal, and a properly applied 2K clear is the truck's best defense.
Stage 6: Wet Sand, Polish & Final Inspection
After full clear coat cure, any minor texture or orange peel in the finish was wet-sanded flat, then machine polished through compound, fine polish, and finishing glaze stages. The final inspection was performed under high-intensity overhead lighting — every panel reviewed for finish quality, color uniformity, and gloss depth. Only when every panel passed that inspection did this Ram 1500 go back to its owner.

Why Houston Truck Owners Choose Fresh Paint
If you drive a Ram 1500, Silverado, F-150, or any full-size truck in the Houston area, you already know what the Texas climate does to your paint.
Houston's Climate vs. Your Truck's Paint
Houston sees more UV radiation per year than almost any major city in the continental U.S. Combine that with the humidity, heat cycles, and proximity to salt air near the coast, and a truck's paint faces serious accelerated aging. The Ram 1500 we restored showed exactly this pattern — UV-induced clear coat hazing on horizontal surfaces and rust beginning at edges and seams where moisture had worked its way through compromised paint. We see this every week. We know exactly what it takes to fix it properly for the long term.

We've restored full-size trucks, mid-size trucks, and classic pickups for owners throughout Houston and the surrounding communities — Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland, Pasadena, Channelview, Spring, Humble, Cypress, and beyond. Factory Color Match — Even on Aged Vehicles
One of the most common questions we hear: "Can you match my factory color?" The answer is yes — but properly. We don't just mix to a paint code and spray. We use a computerized spectrophotometer to scan your existing paint and measure its actual aged color values. We then adjust our formula accordingly so the new paint matches what's actually on the truck. The result is a seamless, invisible repair or full respray that holds up under direct sunlight. Every time.
